Who We Are

The Barony of Ponte Alto is a chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism based in the inner Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC.  Ponte Alto is part of the Kingdom of Atlantia which stretches from Maryland to South Carolina, plus a little bit of Georgia.

What We Do

The Barony works to re-create parts of the Middle Ages through "hands on" activities such as armored combat, fencing, archery, clothing making, embroidery, and music.

Where We Are

The Barony's official territory covers Fairfax County (except for Centreville and Chantilly), Arlington County, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church, but our activities are open to anyone who is interested.

Welcome to the Barony of Ponte Alto!

Their Excellencies of Ponte Alto, Baron James and Baroness Katharine, welcome you!

News and Announcements

Change in Site for Thursday Night Heavy Weapons Practices

Due to the closing of Lemon Road Elementary for the summer, starting this Thursday, June 25th, the Thursday Night Heavy Weapons Fight Practice, will be held outdoors at Tysons Pimmit Park behind the Tysons Pimmit Park Regional Library, weather permitting. Practice will go from 6:00PM to about 9:00 PM or when darkness falls. Fighter Practice Directions

Additional Baronial Open Project Days

As we approach Pennsic, Baron James and Baroness Katharine invite the populace to attend additional open project days at their home in Ashburn, VA, on Sunday June 7th and Sunday June 21st, from 11 am - 7 pm.

This the opportunity for you to work on making yourself or your family some garb or fighter clothing before the big war. If you have never sewn before, please come over and we can help you get started. If you want to fit something you already have or modify something else, this is for you.

We have a variety of equipment / books / tools available and if you are looking for something specific, please ask either of us. We only have one sewing machine and one craft table, so if you want to sew and have a machine and/or a folding table it might be a good idea to bring it, just in case.

As this will be a full day, please bring some food / snacks / drinks to share.

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!

Parking at Archery Practice

To all attending archery practice, please be aware that the parking area between the house and the dumpster is reserved for the people living in the house.

Parking for those attending practice is next to the small doggy pen. Once that fills we are asked to park in the grassy space inside the circle. If that is full too, you need to go to the head in parking across from the dog gate.

Questions? Email the Stierbach Archery Marshal (ndcsive AT cox.net).

To All Heavy Weapons Fighters of Ponte Alto and Its Environs!

A reminder to those to attend marshal activities and practice at Fairfax County Public Schools: Fairfax County Schools do not allow any form of real weapons, even work knives, Swiss Army knives, etc., to be brought onto school property. Please be respectful of this rule so that we may continue having our practices at Lemon Road Elementary School. Thank you!

Archery Indoor Practice Site - Bull Run

With the downturn in the economy, the Bull Run Shooting Center will probably be cutting its hours next fall; the latest news indicates the open hours will probably be 3pm to 5pm during the week. Their Board of Directors will be getting together soon to decide. Stierbach's Archery Marshsl will be working the system to see what might be done, but skeet shooting is their big money maker, not archery, so the money they make from our groups may not make much of a difference.

If anyone knows of an indoor site for next fall, please contact the Baronial Archery Marshal.
